Almost two years ago, in June 2021, this group listened to Cantata 82, “Ich habe genug”. Its original version, performed on February 2, 1727, is in C minor, scored for bass, solo oboe, strings and continuo.
Bach reused this cantata several times in the following years, since it exists in at least 4 variants. The version we’re enjoying today is for soprano, transposed to E minor, with a traverse flute replacing the oboe given the higher compass. It dates from 1730 or 1731.
Other than the change in key and scoring, the piece remains exactly the same. You can access our notes from the original audition here for a more detailed description of the cantata’s liturgical context, libretto and movements. The score linked on this page corresponds to the soprano/flute version.
